SALEEMA NOON, B.A., M.A.
Young enough to relate to children and teens, but experienced enough to understand the issues faced by educators, heath care professionals and parents, Saleema Noon earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Family Sciences at UBC. An interest in unplanned pregnancies and the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases among teens led her to research the quality of sexual health education in B.C. high schools, earning her a Masters degree in sexual health education, also from UBC. Since 1996, Saleema has been working with teens, teachers, parents and health care professionals not only on matters of sexual health, but also in the areas of peer victimization and violence in schools, assertiveness training, healthy relationships, body image and self-esteem. A fitness instructor in her spare time, she is the co-creator and facilitator of the popular Go Girl! empowerment workshops for girls aged 10-13. Viewed by the media as a sexual health expert, Saleema is a bi-weekly guest on BCTV Global Noon News Hour, appears regularly on The Beat 94.5s Kid Carson Show, and recently appeared in CBCs Passionate Eye documentary Secrets. Saleema has also been featured in Canadian Living, Chatelaine along with several other national publications, and is the recipient of Options For Sexual Healths 2003 Educator of the Year Award. |
